Ms Pradyna Khatphule, Mrs Rama Chandrasekhar and Mrs Mansi Mhetras conducted the session for students of grade 7th on 19th July, 2014.
The session started off with revision of topics/experiments that were conducted last year. Quite a few students were able to recollect and explain concepts that they had learnt through these sessions.
Mansi gave demonstration to explain centripetal and centrifugal force. A number of examples like planets rotating around the sun, spinning of clothes in washing machine, roller coaster rides, wall of death, vehicles speeding and skidding alone the curved road etc. were given to them to explain the concept. One of the students came up with example of sling used by farmers to scare birds and rahat (hindi/marathi), a lever system (using buckets attached to cart wheel) to water farms as examples where centripetal and centrifugal are applied.
A water sprinkler model using paper cups and straw was given as part of student activity. We were not able to produce the exact sprinkler effect, so next session we will demonstrate it again and material will be given to student to make the model at home.
Overall, the session was very good and it was nice to see all enthusiastic and curious students after long break.
